Elburn, Ill., is 3 square miles in size, lies 45 miles west of Chicago and 10 miles northwest of Aurora, and is in Blackberry Township in central Kane County.

Elburn was first settled in 1834 and was called Blackberry Station. By 1853, the C&NW Railroad ran through Blackberry Station, and in 1885, the railroad asked for the Village to change its name so it wasn't confused with "Blackberry Township" and "Blackberry Center."

The Village's fathers then dubbed their hometown "Melbourne," but the railroad intervened again, claiming were too many cities by that name. By finessing "Melbourne," the city became "Elbourne," and in 1886, "Elbourne" evolved to "Elburn."
